Northeast Avian Data Center Released!
We are pleased to announce the release of the Northeast Avian Data Center (NADC), one of a growing number of regional nodes to the Avian Knowledge Network (AKN) dedicated to collecting and displaying bird observational data. The Northeast Avian Data Center region includes the 13 states and the District of Columbia that comprise the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Region 5. On this site you will find a wealth of resources related to avian data in the Northeast region. Below is a guide to the site and its highlights.
States
This tab provides an opportunity to explore AKN resources regionally. Each of the 14 NADC states has a dedicated page that summarizes the available data for the state, provides state bar charts and KML files, and provides general information about birds, bird conservation, and ornithological resources within the state. This should be your starting point if you are interested in exploring bird data regionally.
Explore Data
The centerpiece of the site, the Explore Data tab is where you will find the tools and visualizations that provide summary views and explorations of AKN data. Current tools include the bar charts and Google Earth maps, but new tools are constantly under development and will be showcased here when ready for release. Watch this site for updates.
DownloadThrough this tab you can directly download AKN data. Please note that not all data are available for direct download, and some data stored in the AKN may appear on the Explore Data page but not be available as raw data.
ContributeIf you are interested in participating in the AKN, use this tab to upload your dataset directly to the AKN. This will automatically place your data in the AKN archive; if you wish for the data to be federated into the AKN schema we will be in touch with you to continue that process. Data can be made available at any level, from fully protected to publicly available, so please be sure to review the access controls.
