AKN Data
It is also possible to access data directly from the Avian Knowledge Network (AKN). There are two primary ways to download data from the Avian Knowledge Network (AKN)--please first consider using the zipped, prepackaged data.

In order to get all the information the AKN provides for analysis you'll need to download all three types of data:

Sampling Event Data |
| Metadata describe the project methodology and protocol in detail,
as well as contact information, the temporal and geographic scope, and
more. It is essential to review the metadata to understand a
project's data. |
These are the positive observational data accessed by the above
tools (i.e., the prepackaged data and data download tool). |
These data include all surveys conducted, not just positive observations. It is important to join these data with positive observations in order to generate negative data. |
When combined, these three datasets should provide appropriate resources for a full suite of analyses. Note that in order to understand negative data (when a species was absent from a sampling event), you need to compare Observation Data with Sampling Event Data, using the field "Sampling Event Identifier" to provide the linkage between the positive observations (Observation Data) and negative observations (sampling events reflected in the Sampling Event Identifier but not in the Observational Data).
